Bio
Originally from Italy, Chiara Galimberti is currently residing in Chicago. She earned an MA in Italian Studies from NYU in 2015 and an MFA in Painting and Drawing from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2012, where she was a Soros New American Fellow.
Her work tends to be context and place specific rather than self-referential. She is particularly interested in analyzing the social dynamics of oppression, and in investigating art’s place within that space.
She has worked in the fields of gender violence prevention, prison abolition, art education and youth empowerment. She is especially concerned with issues of poverty and intersectional social justice.
