“Homage to Nancy Spero” is an attempt to engage in a conversation with the museum.
The little figurines are small and fragile compared to the large solid institution of the museum. They seem insignificant, but they have questions.
I invite the viewer to first notice the figurines
Their small bodies
Their less than pretty features
Their flimsiness
And then to read the questions
To notice the space
To notice the decisions made within the institution
To notice the stories the building is telling us
To think back on the art they saw on the walls of the museum
To think whether that art speaks to their experience
Does the museum make space for them? Or does it push them out?
Do they have any questions for the museum?
